Big Jest

Big Jest is a rapper and winner of BBC Three’s Rap Game UK. As part of Sutton STEAMs Ahead Big Jest has provided rap and songwriting workshops to young people at the STEAM Fair – working with secondary school students, but also children as young as 5! He also performed at the Sutton STEAMs Ahead launch event.

Year 4 students from Robin Hood school were treated to a full day of STEAM based activities at Sutton Life Centre on July 20th. The students, who were buzzing with excitement, were taken on an educational adventure around the Life Centre and delved into various creative workshops, from bridge building to exploring the animals in Sutton’s ecology parks.

UCL worked with Sutton STEAMs Ahead on the project strand ‘Sutton’s Hidden Worlds’, creating free lesson packs for schools throughout the borough to explore the hidden worlds of our environment. The lessons cover geology and biology, with a focus on Sutton’s local ecology.

Today marks the start of #britishscienceweek (10-19 March 2023). Sutton STEAMs Ahead is an exploration of science and art through local culture. S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. Through the blending of these themes the London Borough of Sutton have assembled an exciting and vibrant programme of cultural and science related activities and events, that the public can enjoy.

The British Science Association has created free activity packs for British Science Week 2023 and they are available to download now! These packs have a wide range of activities with each linking to potential careers!
