Summer Reading Club
Summer reading for kids!
It’s well known that a child’s reading ability could decline over the summer holiday. We’re bringing back the Summer Reading Club to help avoid the summer slump for all children in Key Stage 1 (4-11 years old). We’re encouraging all parents to have their children read six books over summer. You can get a free Summer Reading Club passport which has recommendations of great children’s books your child will enjoy reading, and a space to keep track of their progress. Pick up a passport at an Summer Reading Club hub at either Sutton Central Library, Circle Library, Library at the Phoenix Centre or Wallington Library.
Prizes and rewards!
As well as the enjoyment of venturing to wonderful fictional worlds and the satisfaction of completing all six books, your child could also win a prize! Any child who completes all their reading has a chance to win a prize such as cinema tickets or a session with Bocketts Farm or 1 x family ticket to Oxygen Free Jumping in Croydon and 1 x family ticket to see this show at Polka Theatre. Also all the children from a school in Sutton who read the most books combined will win a prize for their school! To enter the prize draw send a photograph of your completed passport to [arts@sutton.gov.uk] with the email subject line “Summer Reading Club prize entry”.
Events and activities!
Book your place on the STEAM storytime events in several sutton libraries and locations. There will be crafts to complete entertaining to all KS1 children. There will also be a range of STEAM themed drop-in activities taking place across the eight library branches throughout the summer holidays! Sessions will include Lavender & Herb Lino Printing and Creative Writing activities.
